Course Description

Over 4 weeks, learn skills and concepts you’ll need to bring your own show idea from a dream to reality. All workshops are 2.5 hours long. Ghost Light: Intro to Dramaturgy (Mar 7th) Dramaturgy tells us how to research for a genre-based show, how to think critically about which tools to keep in our narrative toolbox, and why we do live theatre in the first place. Narrative Directing (Mar 14th) Explore the process of identifying a good idea, designing a show concept, and planning rehearsals. **This workshop is strongly recommended for anyone who would like to pitch a show to WIT for our 2026-27 season.** Design for Directors (Mar 21st) An intro to figuring out how to include tech in your show and give that extra theatrical gloss to both short form and narrative improvised shows. Producing Your Show (Mar 28th) Budgets & venues & marketing, oh my! Learn the important work of production, and the logistical considerations behind putting on an improv show. Registration notes Two $5 access tickets are available for this course. These places are intended for members of the Ottawa improv community who are in need of financial assistance and/or whose identities are underrepresented in the community.
