Course Description

Audience participation is magical! The audience leans in, the volunteer gets the spotlight, and truly anything can happen. In this four-week course, participants will explore audience-friendly setups and learn how to make the experience safe, comfortable, and rewarding for improvisors and volunteers alike. This course is suitable for improvisors with at least six months of experience (which may include classes and/or regular jams). You should have some short-form experience, and have performed improv in front of an audience at least once. *This course will have a class showcase after the four-week session has concluded. Time and location to be determined.* Registration notes Two $5 access tickets are available for this course. These places are intended for members of the Ottawa improv community who are in need of financial assistance and/or whose identities are underrepresented in the community. Please use coupon code "SHORTFORM_0226" at checkout. Please note that all of our course offerings are designed for improvisers with some experience (at least six months regular practice). If you are a beginner, we recommend that you check out our friends at The Improv Embassy. If you’re new to us, a member of the WIT team may follow up with you to confirm your experience. You must be 18 years or older on the date of the first class — no exceptions. WIT reserves the right to cancel and refund course registrations if participants do not meet the age or experience requirements. If you’re not sure if you meet the requirements, please email classes@waywardimprov.ca to confirm before registering. Please read our cancellation policy prior to registering. Access notes This course will be held in the Way Station (room B22) at Southminster United Church. This room is accessed by stairs. If you’re interested in taking classes with us but require a classroom space with flat access, please reach out to classes@waywardimprov.ca. Participants should wear clothes and shoes that are easy to move in, and bring a water bottle. There will be at least one 10-minute break near the midpoint of each class session. For the safety of everyone, we ask that you please stay home if you are ill. If you are recovering from illness and have lingering symptoms, please wear a mask to class.
